Fully integrated BSL-2 compliant RheaLyo™ Mono freeze-dryer
The RheaLyo™ Mono freeze-dryer, newly equipped for full biosafety level 2 (BSL-2) compliance, addresses the critical need for both product integrity and operator safety when handling biological samples destined for lyophilization. This advanced system integrates seamlessly with laboratories working at BSL-2, offering targeted protections against exposure to potentially hazardous biological agents. The solution is particularly well suited for facilities where not only BSL-2 but also OEB3 (Occupational Exposure Band 3) operator protection is essential.
Central to the BSL-2 compliant upgrade are three advanced components. First, a dedicated biosafety cabinet—positioned atop the RheaLyo™ Mono Single Vial Freeze-Drying System (SVU)—envelops the vacuum chamber, enabling safe transfer and opening of vials containing pathogenic samples. HEPA-14 filtration (0.2 µm) is mounted at the gas outlet to ensure removal of particulates from the cold spin-freezing gas, with a robust, stainless-steel housing and secure KF flange attachment for dependable performance. Additionally, the standard filter of the vacuum pump is replaced by an ULPA filter (0.1 µm), further limiting the risk of airborne contamination by removing finer particles from air ejected during the drying process.
Beyond hardware innovation, the system includes vertical laminar flow through a HEPA filter (ISO 4 classified workspace), comprehensive HEPA filtration of exhausts, a real-time control panel with color-coded status indicators, and compliance with EN 12469 biosafety standards. Open-fronted access and acrylic viewing panels are designed to provide maximal visibility and safe user interaction. The BSL-2 compliant upgrade is an add-on module for the RheaLyo™ Mono freeze-dryer, ensuring that the system is capable of handling infectious materials up to BSL-2 without standalone operation. This provides a unique R&D tool for next-generation freeze-drying applications while maintaining the highest standards of safety for both operators and the surrounding laboratory environment.

- Vertical laminar flow through a HEPA filter
- All exhaust air is HEPA-filtered as it exits the biosafety cabinet
- Control panel with color-coded indicators for real-time cabinet status
- Strictly adhering to EN 12469 standards
- Open-fronted access to freeze-drying
- Acrylic viewing panels maximize lighting across the freeze-drying workspace
